MONTVILLE, NJ – A pedestrian was struck on Route 46 east Wednesday evening and later died at the hospital, according to Police Chief Andrew Caggiano.
The accident occurred at 9:48 p.m., he said. An officer responded to a motor vehicle accident on 46 near the Wood Stack restaurant on 46, on Sept. 30.
“Officers discovered that a pedestrian crossing the east-bound lanes of Rt. 46 had been struck by a 2020 Volvo,” Caggiano said. “The pedestrian was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson, where the pedestrian passed away. The identity of the pedestrian will not be released at this time pending notification to the family.”
The driver of the Volvo immediately stopped after the accident and cooperated with investigators, according to Caggiano, and no other injuries were reported. The east-bound lanes were closed for several hours while the investigation was being conducted.
The investigation is being conducted by the Traffic Bureau of the Montville Township Police Department in conjunction with the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and Morris County Sheriff’s Office.
