MONTVILLE, NJ – Police Chief Andrew Caggiano announced that a man was struck and killed on Route 46 Thursday evening.

Montville Township police responded to a motor vehicle accident on Route 46 west near the McDonald’s on July 25 at 9:15 p.m., Caggiano said. The responding officer discovered that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle traveling west on the highway.

The pedestrian, a 41 year-old male of Pine Brook, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The west-bound lanes of the highway were closed for several hours while the investigation was active and will continue to be conducted by the Traffic Bureau and Detective Bureau of the Montville Township Police Department, in conjunction with the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and Morris County Sheriff’s Office.

Montville Township First Aid Squad also responded to the scene.

The cause of the accident is currently under investigation, Caggiano said. He did not identify the victim or driver.
