MONTVILLE, NJ – Towaco residents were very surprised to see five police cars chasing a motorcycle up and down Pine Brook Road in Towaco Friday night. It was Lincoln Park Police pursuing a Towaco resident who they arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated.
Lincoln Park Police stated that on May 1, just after 10 p.m., Sergeant Greg Bosland was dispatched to a report of a motorcycle being operated in an erratic manner in the area of Valley Road in Lincoln Park. After locating a motorcycle fitting the description on Lincoln Park’s Pine Brook Road and observing it failing to stop at a stop sign, Bosland attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Upon signaling the motorcycle to stop, the driver accelerated away from the officer and a pursuit was initiated. The chase went through Lincoln Park, Towaco, and then back into Lincoln Park before eventually ending in Wayne Township. The driver, Elliot Montalvo, age 28, of Towaco, lost control of the motorcycle, police said.
Montalvo exhibited signs of intoxication according to police, and was subsequently transported to Chilton Medical Center, where he was evaluated and treated for minor injuries, before being discharged and transported to the Lincoln Park Police Department for arrest processing.
Montalvo was charged with eluding police and driving while intoxicated as well as being issued summonses in Lincoln Park, Montville and Wayne Township for numerous title 39 offenses committed in those jurisdictions during the pursuit. He was later released to a responsible party with a pending court date.
Police Chief Andrew Caggiano said no Montville Township Police vehicles were involved in the pursuit.
A charge is merely an accusation. The defendant is presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
