MONTVILLE, NJ - Montville senior Emma Wax reached a milestone on Monday afternoon, which only three previous Montville girls basketball players had done before.
She scored the 1,000th point of her career as part of a 24-point performance in a 63-37 win over Hillside in the Lady Knights Showcase at Paterson Kennedy High School in Paterson.
She went into Monday afternoon's tilt needing just six points to hit the milestone, and the senior buried a three-pointer in the first quarter to secure her place in Montville's record books.
"I'm thrilled to have achieved this milestone surrounded by my teammates, coaches, and family," Wax said.
In total, Wax hit four three-pointers in the game, to go along with seven rebounds, five assists, two blocks, and five steals.
"Emma has been such a big part of our team's success for these past four years," Montville coach Derek Lynn said. "I am proud to see her hard work pay off. Emma is our fourth 1,000 point scorer. Scoring over 1,000 career points takes consistency and talent, and Emma has both. Just as Emma watched our previous two 1,000 point scorers (The O'Reilly sisters) play, I'm sure there are young future Mustangs watching Emma and wanting to accomplish similar things."
The win improved Montville to a perfect 5-0 to start the season. Bella Vito also had 19 points, seven rebounds, and four steals in the win.
Montville will be back in action on Friday night as it hosts Mendham at 7 p.m.
