MONTVILLE, NJ - Thanks to 6 1/3 innings of strong work from starting pitcher Colin Regan and a three RBI day for Matt Bettio, the Montville baseball team picked up a big 3-1 win over Morris Knolls on Saturday in Denville.
Regan surrendered one run on two hits during his outing, with the only run he surrendered coming in the first inning. He struck out three and walked three in the 90-pitch performance, before turning it over to Aidan Bush who recorded the final two outs in only five pitches.
Bettio gave Regan a lead to work with before he even took the mound in the first, as he drove in two runs to build a 2-0 lead. He added another RBI in the fifth inning for a key insurance run. He finished the day by going 1-for-1 with a home run and three RBI.
The win improved Montville's record to 13-11 this season, as it readies for Monday's state tournament opener at home against 12th seed Sparta in the North 1, Group 3 first round. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
