MONTVILLE, NJ - Wednesday night the Montville boys basketball team was defeated at home in a close game against conference rival, Delbarton, with a score of 50-53.  

“We passed well. We defended well. We played hard,” co-captain Joe DelloStritto stated, undismayed by the team’s loss. “There were just some shots that didn’t fall. Our guys compete together–we live for it. [We] just can’t wait to see Delbarton at their place.”

Throughout the game, the two teams were neck and neck, ending each quarter with no more than a three-point margin. By the first half, Montville held the lead by two points, yet Delbarton continued to stay strong up until the end, winning the third quarter and ultimately the game.

Their opponents gained more momentum after Jaedon Khubani brought the score to 50-49 after a buzzer beater in the third quarter, helping Delbarton keep a close score behind Montville. In the end, Delbarton won with 21 points contributed by Khubani along with Miles Leniw and Gianni Vinci, who followed with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
 
Montville Head Coach Bill Medina, throughout the fourth quarter, utilized every moment to discuss strategy with his team, consecutively calling all five timeouts up until the last five seconds of the game. However, the team was unable to regain the lead.

Despite their loss, Montville’s Tyler Coan was the lead scorer with 15 points as well as five rebounds and two assists. This was followed by co-captain Zach Warech, who scored 11 points and added eight rebounds and four assists.

Co-captain Liam Cassidy said, “We fought so incredibly hard, and it came down to the wire, unfortunately not in our favor. But games like that teach us how to become stronger and move on with fiercer ambitions.”

Montville will be hosting their next home game on Jan. 10 against West Morris.
