MONTVILLE, NJ - It was just one year ago when the Montville boys soccer team saw its season end at the hands of Paramus in the sectional semifinals.
Determined to not let that happen again, the top seeded Mustangs took the field on Tuesday in the North 1, Group 3 semifinals, with an opportunity to avenge last year's season-ending loss. It did just that as it scored three times in the second half to roll to a commanding 4-0 win over fourth seed Paramus at Montville Township High School.
The win advanced the Mustangs to Friday's sectional final, where it will host sixth seed Ramapo, which was a 1-0 winner over second seed Pascack Valley in the semifinals. The start time is set for 4 p.m.
Brett Freeman and Andres Lazo each scored twice for Montville (19-2-1). Lazo gave the team the lead in the 15th minute, before Freeman doubled the advantage in the 51st.
The defense came through as it has all season, as it recorded the team's 14th clean sheet of the year.
