MONTVILLE, NJ - The Montville Lady Mustangs have reached a record of 8-6 after 4 straight victories this past week against Mendham, Chatham, Hudson Catholic and Parsippany Hills.

Last Saturday, the team beat Morris Hills in the preliminary round of the Morris County tournament with a score of 5-3, yet this past Tuesday, sixteenth-seeded Montville was defeated in the next round with a 4-14 loss to Parsippany, who was seeded first.

“[The county game against Parsippany] was a tough loss, and we realized that we needed to work harder and fix all the mistakes we made,” varsity right-fielder Avani Dang said.

Despite their defeat, Montville regained momentum starting Thursday, which began with a 4-0 lead for Mendham until the Lady Mustangs tied the game in the fifth inning. At the bottom of the sixth inning, Isabelle Bressman batted in a final run as Gianna Palmisano crossed the plate, ending the game with a 6-5 win. Palmisano also pulled in two RBIs and a hit, and Jordan Strickland hit two doubles.

The team continued its success through Friday as they mercied conference-rival Chatham, with a final score of 11-1. Kelly Dodgson, Samantha Conrad, Samantha Levine, Avani Dang, and Strickland each contributed two hits. Strickland also batted in three runs, followed by Jaclyn Monaco and Conrad with two runs batted in.

Strickland said, “I’m really proud of the team for mercying the second-seeded team [Chatham] from counties and defeating Mendham, who we lost to in the beginning of the season.”

After their victory over Mendham, Head Coach John Immediato incentivized his team to win the next few tough games. Immediato promised to shave an “M” on his head if the team beat Chatham that following day, and indeed, he committed to his words as he showed up to Saturday’s game against Hudson Catholic with a new hairstyle.

With the new lucky “M” and the team’s positive energy, the Lady Mustangs once again mercied their opponents in a 12-2 win. Dodgson led with a 1.000 batting average, earning four hits and four RBIs, followed by Strickland with two hits and two RBIs.

The team went on to continue its winning streak against Parsippany Hills on Monday with a score of 25-6. Montville’s bats were on fire as Palmisano went 5-for-5 with a home run and eight RBIs, Jaclyn Monaco went 4-for-4 with a double and three RBIs and Bressman added two doubles with four RBIs.

The Lady Mustangs next home game is against Wayne Hills on Thursday, May 3 at 4 p.m.
