MORRISTOWN, NJ – The Community Soup Kitchen and Outreach Center in Morristown, NJ recently hosted a free “Growing Healthy Kids” program at St. Peter’s Church to introduce more than 100 local children to the benefits and importance of good nutrition. Made possible as part of a $42,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation, the program gave children of local working families an opportunity to learn about the benefits of nutritious eating … while enjoying various interactive activities and games.
“We’re so grateful for the continued support from the Walmart Foundation,” says Nancy Rudgers, Community Soup Kitchen Volunteer Coordinator. “Each year we strive to reach more kids with the program, and I know they look forward to it as much as we do.”
Walmart’s grant helps the Community Soup Kitchen keep its door open 365 days per year, while feeding hundreds who need a hot meal and some assistance getting back on their feet. It also provides free farmers markets four times weekly, plus hundreds of summertime meals for youngsters not in school.
