MADISON, NJ - Chatham Township and Madison Borough experienced a total of 11 burglaries to automobiles on Saturday night, Aug. 20, according Lt. John Miscia of the Madison Police Department. 

The burglaries ranged from GPS systems, to cash, wallets, credit cards and tech equipment left inside vehicles.

All incidents of reported motor vehicle break-ins took place Saturday night at residents' homes.

Areas hit in Madison were Garfield Avenue, Shunpike, Fox Chase Road and surrounding. As well, Chatham thefts on the Chatham Township side of Shunpike.

"These incidents seemed to be related", stated Miscia. "On all accounts the vehicles were unlocked and very accessible to actors. We would like to stress the importance of keeping car doors locked and secured."

This evening of incidents comes on the heals of a summer rash of auto and home burglaries in Madison and Chatham, including an armed robbery of Crescent Jewelers on Main Street in Chatham.
