MORRISTOWN, NJ - The 16th Annual Morristown Community Family Day got underway on Saturday September 22 at Cauldwell Park. Attendees enjoyed live music, grilled food, sweets, games, informational booths and more.
Tim Dougherty, Mayor of Morristown, was present at the event and happy to share his thoughts about the event. “Family Day showcases how the diverse community works together as one to create the best place to live and work.”
While eating and enjoying the music, people were browsing various displays, meeting key figures and gathering information from organizations like The Morristown Neighborhood House, Cornerstone Family Programs and Habitat For Humanity.
According to Gwenn Heller-DellaPelle, Director of Development at Morristown Neighborhood House, the program at the Neighborhood House has really expanded. Currently, there are programs for children ages 12 months to eighth grade and nearly 10,000 residents in the community are impacted by Morristown Neighborhood House, DellaPelle stated.
“I encourage the public to come and take tours to see all we have to offer", she said.
The Morristown Neighborhood House has a computer lab, STEM centers, and a preschool before and after school program. The facility serves a hot meal each day as well as provides access to tutors to help in various academic areas. The Pre-Apprentice Program, sponsored by JCP&L and the Urban League of Morris County, is available to anyone ages 17-50, either just starting out in the working world or individuals who are ready to change their career path.
Sherrod Middleton, a current student in the program, explained, “This program provides the best training both in the classroom as well as hands on experience. Students are well trained in many different areas so they are skilled and ready to enter the work field.”
The event was presented by Town of Morristown, Cornerstone Family Programs, Morristown Neighborhood House, Morris Habitat for Humanity, Envirosight and First Energy Foundation.
