EDISON, NJ - Sandcastle Billiards and the Mezz Pro-Am Tour will host the 2015 New Jersey State 10-Ball Championships this coming weekend.

Now in its 3rd year running, this event draws pool players and billiard enthusiasts of all ages, genders and skill levels from various neighboring states and around the world to compete in this challenging gauntlet of pool talent.

“My dedication and commitment to the billiards industry is to provide the proper environment and platform for veteran as well as novice players to enjoy and introduce them to all the beautiful facets of the sport,” Ed Liddawi, owner of Sandcastle Billiards said. “Pool rooms that are actually dedicated to the players are very limited in the area and my goal is to make Edison, NJ the epicenter of the entire professional billiards industry here in the United States.”

The two day tournament is open to players of all skill sets to enter as it commences on Saturday, April 25 starting at 12 p.m. with doors opening at 11a.m. and conclude on Sunday, April 26.

The 2014 reigning NJ State 10-Ball Champion is a young established and already world renowned champion, Darren “Dynamite” Appleton of Pontefract, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom who has been winning several major events all around the world for the past decade.

Pontefract accomplishments which are still piling up include, 2006 BCA National 8ball championships Grand Masters Champion Las Vegas, 2007 bpppa Manchester 9ball open champion, 2008 World 10 Ball Champion, Philippines, 2008 Derby City Straight Pool Champion, 2009 World Pool Masters Champion, 2010 & 2011 Back to Back US Open 9ball Champion, 2011 Mosconi Cup Championship Team Member, 2012 World 9ball Champion and officially became ranked #1 in the World by the World Pool-Billiard Association and maintained that ranking throughout the next year as he won the Gold Medal at the 2013 World Games held in Columbia, and made history with a record 200 ball run in competition during the 2013 World Tournament of Straight Pool then next year, winning the 2014 World Tournament of Straight Pool and earlier this year completed probably his greatest accomplishment yet by winning the WPA sanctioned, and World 8-Ball Championship.

The 2013 NJ State 10-Ball Championships was top Filipino Professional player and Billiard Congress of America Hall of Famer, Francisco “Django” Bustamante.

Bustamante has won over 60 major championship titles including the 1998: World Pool Masters, 2000: Eurotour,  2002 35th All Japan Championship, 2003 ESPN International Challenge of Champions, 2004 World Pool League, 2006 World Cup of Pool, 2007 UPA US Pro Tour Champion, 2009 42nd All Japan Championship, 2009 World Cup of Pool, 2010 WPA World Nine-Ball Championship, in 2010 became eligible and got inducted into the Billiard Congress of America Hall of Fame and in 2013 became the Derby City Classic Master of the Table

“I hope to expend efforts to help erase the negative stigma the pool world has been branded with for the past several generations and replace it with a cleaned up positive image to help revitalize the sport,” Liddawi added

Sandcastle Billiards, established in Edison in 2007 has already made a staple in the billiards industry not only in the United States but internationally as well! hosting and even producing several amateur and professional events over the past seven years has drawn hundreds of the top players from all around the globe. Top professionals from the UK, Finland, Germany, Philippines, France, Scotland, and of course all the top professionals from all over the United States have visited and competed at Sandcastle enjoying their experiences and were full of compliments afterwards.
