TRENTON, NJ - A massive three-year project to improve safety and traffic flow at the interchange of I-287 with I-78 (Interchange 21) and I-287 with Routes 202/206 (Interchange 22) in Bridgewater and Bedminster Townships is expected to begin by October.
According to the state Department of Transportation, the project involves relocating the existing left side entry ramp from I-78 eastbound to I-287 northbound to a right side entry to reduce accidents on I-287 northbound between exits 21 and 22.
The project will also realign the existing ramp from I-287 northbound to Routes 202/206 southbound to allow for continuous flow of ramp traffic onto Routes 202/206 southbound.
All traffic lanes will remain open during peak hours. Off-peak hour lane closures, including overnight hours will be necessary for some project work.
The estimated completion date for the project is December 2019. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
