MORRISTOWN, NJ - Abendmusik, the concert series sponsored by Music@MUMC, continues its 2014-2015 30th Anniversary season with a concert of exciting South American music on Saturday, March 14 at 7:30 pm. The concert will be featuring Quintetto Sincopato, a group comprised of Mary Cherney, Flute; John La Barbera, Mandolin; Darren O’Neill, Guitar; Mark Wade, Bass; and Rex Benincases, Percussion.
Brought together through their common connection to the late, great Dennis Cinelli, Quintetto Sincopato presents an exciting evening of South American music arranged for flute, mandolin, guitar, double bass, and percussion. Maestro Cinelli (1953-2012), mandolinist extraordinaire, sought to create unique arrangements of Argentine tangos by Astor Piazolla (1921-1992) and Brazilian waltzes and choros by Alfredo "Pixinguinha" Vianna (1897-1973) for the ensemble to perform.
Upon his passing, the remaining members of the ensemble joined with a new mandolinist to perform these beautiful arrangements and to publicly honor the memory of their departed colleague; hence, the name of the program – “Omaggio a Cinelli.”
The concert will be presented at the Morristown United Methodist Church, 50 Park Place (on the Green), Morristown, NJ.
There is a suggested donation of $20.00 for adults and $15.00 for senior citizens. Advance tickets are available by telephoning the church office 973-538-2132.
There will be a reception following the concert. For more information visit: www.morristownumc.com.
