BERNARDSVILLE, NJ – Consul General of Pakistan Raja Ali Ejza, accompanied by his wife, Ayeshav, came from New York City to attend the opening of the ‘Made in Pakistan’ exhibit at the Alhamra Art Center on Saturday, Aug. 12.

Also attending the event were Bernardsville Mayor Kevin Sooy and his wife Veronica, and M. Ali Chaudry, former Bernards Township mayor, and a Basking Ridge resident, as well as other dignitaries and friends.

The exhibit celebrates the 70th anniversary of the birth of Pakistan. When British colonial rule on the indo-pak subcontinent ended in 1947, Pakistan and India became two separate countries. Pakistan, with its Muslim majority, and India with a Hindu majority. Seventy years later, Pakistan has retained its sovereignty and evolved its own identity.

There were handicrafts produced by artisans from around Pakisan, including clothing, jewelry, pottery, and even antiques.

She and her husband, Qasim Ahmad, are residents of Basking Ridge.

The exhibit will run through Aug. 31, at the Alhamra Art Center, 21 Claremont Road, Bernardsville. The gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.  The Art Center can be reached by phone at 908-432-8386, or by email at alhamraartcenter@gmail.com, or visit the Art Center on Facebook .
