SPRINGFIELD, NJ – Senior Captain Amanda Lau entered the championship game of the 14th Annual Joe Pepe Tournament against undefeated Morristown-Beard with 997 career points. She led the Bulldogs to a 52-49 victory in the championship game and passed the 1,000-point mark by scoring 26 points and also making three rebounds, two assists and one steal.
Amanda Lau is the 12th Jonathan Dayton girls basketball player to achieve that mark. The achievement was recognized at the game.
It was a close game. Morristown-Beard led by a point at the end of the third quarter. The Bulldogs led 29-23 at the end of the half. They regrouped after the third quarter and outscored Morristown-Beard 12-8 in the fourth quarter.
Junior Sayre Brandstatter added ten points, a rebound, an assist, a steal and a blocked shot. Senior Melanie Schickler scored nine points, pulled in three rebounds and made an assist.
Senior Captain Nicolette Angelo scored two points, made four rebounds, two assists and blocked two shots. Junior Caitlynn McTernan scored a point, had a game high six rebounds, made two assists, made three steals and blocked two shots. Sophomore Michelle Bellino made four points and had two rebounds.
Morristown-Beard was led by Bridget Monaghan with 24 points and Addisyn Ibrahim with ten points.
The Bulldogs are 5-0 on the season and play at division rival Union Catholic at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday.
