MORRISTOWN, NJ — The deep freeze is back and don’t expect it to warm up until the beginning of next week.
The National Weather Service is anticipating record-breaking cold temperature, particularly for Saturday and Saturday night. By Sunday night, the persistence of subfreezing temperatures that began just after Christmas will be the longest such stretch for New Jersey dating back to February 1979.
Temperatures are expected to rise above freezing on Monday, January 8, but also bring the chance of snow.
Emergency responders throughout Morris County also are asking residents and businesses to clear a 3 foot area around a hydrant near your home or business so it is visible and accessible.
In the event of a power outage, contact Jersey Central Power & Light at 1-888-LIGHTSS (544-4877) or visit its website at: https://www.firstenergycorp.com/o…/Report_Power_Outages.html . It is important for every customer without power to call and report their outage, even if you believe your neighbor has already done so.
PSE&G can be reached at 1-800-436-7764. To report a gas leak or the smell of gas, call 800-436-7734.
Warming Centers in Morristown will be open throughout the weekend. The Morristown Firehouse, located at 161 Speedwell Avenue will be open Friday from 4:30pm to 8:30am and then 24 hours a day until Monday January 8.
