MORRISTOWN, NJ — Across the country and in national media, many folks are asking a stinging question: What's wrong with the United States?

That thought came, of course, as a reaction to violence committed by white nationalists and members of the so-called Alt Right this weekend in Charlottesville, Virginia, who were there to rally against the removal of a Confederate monument. In what federal lawmakers have labeled an act of domestic terrorism, a 20-year-old Ohio man allegedly drove a car into a crowd of counter-protesters, killing one woman.

But that hate-fueled chaos isn't going unanswered—at least in the Morristown area.

Organizations plan to hold a “vigil against hate,” to stand in solidarity with Charlottesville and the victims. Hosted by the Action Together New Jersey, the event's Facebook page states that the event will consist of a candlelight prayer, Jericho Walk and song to stand with the survivors, mourn the victims and plan for a future where all people are safe.

In addition to the vigil, local activists are fighting the Deportation Budget.

"In New Jersey's 11th district, Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen (NJ-11) has a key role in determining the budget as Chair of the Appropriations committee. Votes are expected in September", wrote Make the Road NJ, one of the organizers taking part in the event."That's why this August Recess,  we are drawing a line in the sand to demand #Not1Dollar for the Frelinghuysen Deportation Budget. Please join Make the Road New Jersey, Wind of the Spirit, NJ-11th for Change and more than a dozen organizations from New Jersey and across the country, August 14-18 in Morristown, NJ for a non-stop week of action to Block the Deportation budget. It's time to #DefundHate".

The week long action will begin Monday morning at 11 in front of Congressman Frelinghuysen's office, 30 Schuyler Place with a kick off rally to block the deportation budget. Later this evening, at 7pm, an overnight vigil will be held on the Morristown Green.
