TransOptions Helping Locals Create a Healthier Commute This May
According to a new study released two weeks ago by the British Medical Journal, biking to work can extend a person's life and reduce their risk of developing cancer and heart disease. TransOptions is doing its part to enhance quality of life for northwestern New Jersey by promoting its annual Bike To Work Challenge this May.

During May, registered riders can win prizes by riding their bicycle even part of the way to work. TransOptions’ 2017 Bike to Work Challenge begins today and runs throughout the entire month of May. People who bike, whether expert or beginner, can register for this free, friendly competition. It’s enthusiasm that counts, rather than bicycle riding ability.

The Bike to Work Challenge is about incorporating a bicycle ride into commutes as often as feasible during May that works with schedules and commute routines. For example, participants can drive to a Park & Ride lot and ride the rest of the way to work, bike to a train station or take their bicycle on the bus. Commuting every day by bicycle is not required but every ride increases the opportunity to win bigger prizes.

“As long as your commute incorporates a bicycle ride, it counts,” said John F. Ciaffone, TransOptions’ President. “The Bike to Work Challenge is a win-win for participants. In addition to living healthier lives and feeling energized, participants help the environment by choosing a sustainable, two-wheel commute."

Bicycle riders can participate in the Bike To Work Challenge as an individual and as a team with up to four other bike riding friends or coworkers. Team participants gain additional chances to win prizes, share camaraderie and motivate each other. Teams are also a way for more experienced riders to mentor novice riders.

A mobile tracking tool, GoForGood, now available for download on Google Play and the Apple App Store, allows participants to easily record their trips and miles.

TransOptions extends appreciation to Bike To Work Challenge 2017 sponsors: Thorlabs, Atlantic Ambulance Corporation, REI, Cycle Craft, Wyndham Worldwide, Planet Fitness and Shop Rite of Greater Morristown! Thanks to their support there is no fee to participate in this year’s event.
