MORRISTOWN, NJ - In an update to parents and guardians on Thursday March 26, the Morris School District asked parents to be prepared for the possibility that schools may remain closed through June.

The Morris School District will remain closed until further notice per Governor Murphy's Executive Order No. 104.

"A return date has not yet been specified by the Governor, but he indicated during a March 23rd press conference that schools will be closed for an extended time. Please prepare for the possibility that we may need to remain closed through June," stated school officials.

The district announced yesterday that a staff member at Alexander Hamilton School tested positive for COVID-19. Anyone who attended school or worked at Alexander Hamilton School between March 10 through March 13, 2020, may have been exposed. In today's update, the district informed the community that tomorrow, Friday March 27 would have been two weeks from the last day of school.

"According to the CDC, current information suggests that the incubation period of coronavirus ranges from 2-14 days. Therefore, after Friday, March 27, it is highly unlikely that transmission would have occurred through exposure at school", school officials said.

There will be no instruction during Spring Break for students, the district said. Spring break is scheduled for April 6 through April 13.

"The District plans to provide families with recommended online and offline learning activities and resources that complement the MSD curriculum to help keep children engaged during the break", they stated in the update."These activities will be optional and are meant to serve as additional support for families who may be looking for suggestions. More information will be communicated next week".

There will be no meal service during spring break, said the district. Free and reduced lunches will resume on Tuesday April 14, 2020.

"Please also continue to practice strict social distancing. It is important that we take very seriously the Governor's Stay at Home Order, Executive Order No. 107. This includes instructing your children NOT TO MEET others at the park, playground, basketball court, downtown, or someone’s home", the district said.
