MORRISTOWN, NJ- The Delbarton Green Wave overcame a slow start to defeat the Colonials at Morristown High school by a score of 59-43. Delbarton improves to 9-2 on the year while Morristown has now dropped 3-straight to fall back to .500 at 5-5.
Things couldn’t have started better for Bill Connolly and his Colonials as his defense was all over Delbarton and held the Green Wave to a 3-point 1 st quarter as his team jumped out to a 11-3 advantage. Ray Mundrick had another strong outing for Morristown scoring 14 points and collecting 8 boards.
Mundrick made his presence felt on the defensive end with 3 blocks and a steal. Foul-trouble would hurt Mundrick and the Colonials as he had to sit out with 4 fouls late in the 3rd quarter. Timmy Ganning finished with a season-high 16, and was hot from 3, burying 4 of them. Morristown went into the locker room with a 3-point as Delbarton started to catch fire in the 2 nd quarter.
“We played very well in the first half,” said coach Connolly. “To be up 3 at the half was a very positive sign.”
In the 2 nd half, Delbarton’s size and depth was just too much to handle for the Colonials. Jaedon Khubani took over the game scoring all 18 of his points in the 2 nd half and created a lot of turnovers in the backcourt.
“We understand the mistakes we made in the 3 rd quarter that allowed them to increase the lead,” said coach Connolly. “However, I’m extremely happy with the way we didn’t give up and stayed in the game.”
The Colonials will look to end their 3-game skid Saturday against Brearley at 1pm.
“Hopefully we get fully healthy soon so we have our full roster, because we have a great group of guys that play with a lot of heart,” said coach Connolly.
