SHORT HILLS, NJ - The Cora Hartshorn Arboretum and Bird Sanctuary in Short Hills has plans well-underway for a brand new Stone House Nature Center slated for opening by Earth Day, April 22, 2017.  The new indoor exhibit will replace dated and worn animal enclosures with live animal specimens, sculptural trees, canopies, graphics, participatory hands-on activities and discovery spaces, serving as a dramatic backdrop to a wide range of educational programs.

Visitors will learn about forest ecology, animals and their habitats, and the need to protect the natural world for future generations. The design, developed by David Lackey of Whirlwind Creative, will integrate the historic arched windows in the Stone House with a new platform that will allow visitors to look out into the majestic woodlands that surround the arboretum.

The Board of Trustees has announced a community fundraising campaign to cover capital costs of the new exhibit, estimated at $150,000. Donations of $500.00 and above toward the exhibit will be acknowledged with a plaque on the Donor Recognition Panel in the arboretum.  For more information and to donate, please visit:  http://hartshornarboretum.org/support/stone-house-nature-center/
