MORRISTOWN, NJ - Councilwoman Michelle Dupree Harris announced her plan to run for Mayor of Morristown at the Morristown Diner. Harris will be running against Incumbent Mayor Timothy Dougherty.

Running alongside Harris are three other residents who are hoping to earn a position on council as well. Running for Council at Large are Esperanza Porras-Fields, Jenna Gervasio and Maria Soumachi.

Harris has been serving as Mayor at Large on the Morristown Council for the past 19 years and is seeking the office of mayor in order to make a variety of chances in town.

“Why am I running? Because it is my time,” said Harris. “It is time for a community with a new vision honoring traditional values, and it’s time to create a stronger balance to the lives of all Morristown Residents and working families.  It’s time for inclusion where everyone feels safe and welcome.”

Harris also said it is important for all residents of Morristown to be informed of all the changes taking place in town.

“I am here to be that voice for all, to advocate for all the things that matter to us. I am here to bring vision, balance and inclusion to Morristown. I offer you true leadership and the opportunity to be part of something real

Harris introduced each of the women who will be running along side her including Jenna Gervasio who is the granddaughter of former Morristown Mayor.

“It is in my blood to serve people,” she said “I am here for you, I want to be that person on the council who genuinely cares.”

The Democratic Primaries in Morristown will take place on June 6.
