MORRIS TOWNSHIP, NJ -  The kindergarten through grade eight students at Saint Virgil Academy (SVA) welcomed a distinguished alumni member back through the doors of the Morris Township school.  Mr. Michael Favetta, Morning Weather Anchor with News12 Brooklyn/Bronx, and recent Emmy Award recipient, came to speak with the children about his journey from SVA to on-air news personality.

After introductions were made by Favetta’s former kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Lori Weber, who still remains teaching kindergarten at SVA today, Favetta explained how he attended Seton Hall Preparatory School after graduating from middle school and then continued on to receive his degree in meteorology from Kean University.  The SVA Class of 1999 graduate revealed how his work as a member of the American Meteorological Society sealed him as a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist in 2010.

Favetta enthusiastically provided the students with a glimpse of his “Favetta’s Weatherkids” presentation wherein he demonstrates atmospheric phenomenon in an interactive setting that is fun and easy to understand.  His passion about weather research and technology has led to his success in presenting such information in a way that makes for a more interesting weathercast.  Favetta concluded his visit by encouraging the students to continue on with their already much lauded STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) studies, explaining how they never know where such a path will lead them.  The weather personality served as a proven example to the young audience of how enthusiasm and hard work can help attain success.
