MORRISTOWN, NJ - Mike Reed and Patrick Donaghy have been best friends for over 30 years. They grew up together and have stuck by each other through life's ups and downs ever since.  Patrick, a 1987 graduate from Morristown High School has lived in Morristown most of his life. He is an avid saxophone player and comedian. 

"He is a great friend, husband, and family member", states Reed. "He is my best friend and has always been there for me".

As an electrician, Patrick used his hands every day on the job. Patrick starting developing symptoms in his hand and was later diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) or better known as Lou Gerhig's disease.  ALS slowly takes away muscular function making everyday activities difficult and eventually impossible.

"Patrick is an independent man. He is a very successful tradesman, owns his own home and has always provided for his family", said Reed. "This cruel disease first showed up in his hands, the tools of his livelihood and is now creating financial challenges".

Despite having insurance, the Donaghy's are facing financial challenges. Donaghy's wife had to stop working to provide full time care for Patrick. Their home has been made wheelchair accessible and their entire life now focuses on managing his ALS.

Reed knew he needed to help his friend.  A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the Donaghy's outfit a van for a wheelchair and purchase equipment allowing Patrick to communicate. 

"I would like to raise $40,000 in order to help purchase a van that Patrick can use to get around. Any money leftover would be used for other home adjustments" stated Reed. " I know we all have personal challenges that we have to face ourselves and within our family so I appreciate you considering this for Patrick".
