MORRIS PLAINS, NJ - Interim CEO, Dan McGuire announced in a letter to supporters that Furnishing Solutions will close its doors for good on July 15. Even though all items in the store were donated and the majority of the staff are volunteers, the store continued to lose money.
"The store has continued to lose money despite the tremendous efforts of Store Manager Genevieve McDermott and her dedicated staff and volunteers," wrote McGuire. "The money we lose at the store actually takes away from resources to fund the programs of Homeless Solutions".
Homeless Solutions serves families and individuals in the Morris County area by providing shelter, affordable housing and services to homeless and low-income members of the community.
"Our mission is to empower the homeless and working poor with the tools needed to rebuild and strengthen their lives and to provide safe, affordable and well-maintained housing where families can grow and prosper," said McGuire.
"Opening Furnishing Solutions was an entrepreneurial effort to increase and diversify our funding streams," wrote McGuire. "For the twelve years I’ve been here, Homeless Solutions has relied on innovation in our efforts to best meet our mission. We started developing affordable housing (energy efficient housing, no less), increased the number of beds at the shelter by relocating the administrative offices, added and grown new special events into significant fundraisers (Women’s Day and the Gran Fondo NJ), and even merged an entire nonprofit into ours to ensure the senior women at the Mt. Kemble Home would continue to have safe, affordable housing."
Normal operations will be suspended on July 3. But until then, come imagine the possibilities to repurpose, renew and redecorate your home or wardrobe by receiving 50% off purchases from June 16 through June 26. From June 27 through July 3, customers will receive 75% off all purchases.
Furnishing Solutions offers unique furniture, housewares and clothing at the resale store, located at 2960 State Route 10, Powder Mill Plaza West, Morris Plains.
“When you innovate, not every initiative will work out as planned", said Dan McGuire, HSI Interim CEO. "I am proud to be part of an organization that embraces new ideas and opportunities to better meet our mission and the needs of the most vulnerable households in our community. I salute the Furnishing Solutions team and applaud their great efforts.”
