MORRISTOWN, NJ – Everyone who paid to watch Morristown and Mendham’s girls basketball teams battle on Friday night got their money’s worth. The last 32 minutes were a back and forth between both teams.
And it took every second of those 32 seconds to decide a winner, as Tara O’Neill’s three-pointer at the buzzer gave the Colonials a 43-42 victory in a NJAC-United Division thriller. Morristown – which will likely earn a top 2 seed along with Morris Catholic in Sunday’s Morris County Tournament seeding meeting – upped its record to 10-1 overall and 3-0 with the first half of United play complete.
O’Neill led all scorers with 21 points, while Kate Kolb also reached double-figures with 10 points. While only scoring nine points, Elizabeth Strambi had her usual all-around game for the winners, recording five assists, three steals, and pulling in four rebounds on the evening.
The Colonials will travel to Watchung Hills Regional High School on Monday January 22. Tip off is set for 7pm.
