MORRISTOWN, NJ - Hundreds of jazz and blues fans turned out for the 8th Annual Morristown Jazz and Blues Festival, happening now on the Morristown Green. The event, sponsored by the New Jersey Jazz Society will continue until 10pm Saturday evening. The day began with the Air Force Jazz Big Band and will continue with Bria Skonberg, LaBamba & The Hubcaps, The Bernard Allison Group and concluding with Davy Knowles.
"Early on, I was walking through the crowd, thanking everybody for coming out", said Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty. "We are so happy you're here and that the weather has held up."
Mayor Dougherty invited guests to sit back, relax and enjoy the music.
Cydney Halpin, president of the New Jersey Jazz Society, a sponsor of the event, took to the stage and introduced performer Bria Skonberg. Halpin stated that Skonberg is a 2017 Juno winner, the equavalent to Canadian Grammy, she said. Halpin continued by saying, "Bria is also the co-founder of the New York Hot Jazz Camp, which is an incredible learning experience".
To a round of applause, Halpin shouted "Hello Morristown" as she took center stage.
"It is so wonderful to be back again. We've been looking forward to this for a long time", she told fans. "We have a lot of music to come at you."
She started her set with a song from "her idol" Lewis Armstrong.
