MORRISTOWN, NJ – Step one: Check.
The Morristown girls basketball team launched its state tournament run on Monday night with a 57-41 victory over Hackensack in the NJSIAA North 1, Group 4 tournament on its home floor.
The top-seeded Colonials advance to face North Bergen—winner of a 33-32 overtime slugfest over North Bergen on Monday evening—in Wednesday night’s quarterfinals.
Perhaps Morristown’s Morris County Tournament victory brought with it a bit of a hangover, as the sixteenth seeded Comets were leading by a 29-22 margin at halftime. However, a 17-6 third quarter put Morristown back up 39-35 after three.
Morristown center Kayla Bush dominated in the paint, scoring 17 points and matching that number in rebounds to lead the Colonials.
