MORRISTOWN, NJ - The Young People’s Network (YPN) of the League of Women Voters of New Jersey and the League of Women Voters of the Morristown Area are hosting a birthday party and happy hour on February 14 from 3-6 pm at Tashmoo Restaurant and Bar in Morristown. The gathering is expected to draw young professionals and activists from around the state travelling to pay homage to the nonpartisan political organization on the 95th anniversary of their founding in 1920.
“2015 is a really big year for the League. Not only is 95 years a huge milestone, we are energized with new enthusiastic leadership that will guarantee many more years for the League of Women Voters, thanks to events like this and the newly formed Young People’s Network,” said Nancy Hedinger, Vice President of Advocacy and Programs of the League of Women Voters of New Jersey.
“The Young People’s Network is creating new ways for young people to get involved with the League in meaningful ways,” said Stacey Faella, YPN chair. “The League is a great resource on local politics and offers the opportunity to connect with civic minded peers. We want to make sure other young people know that they can become more engaged and informed citizens through this great organization."
The League has seen a growth in membership as more young professionals join the organization. “I joined because I wanted to grow as an activist. Where else can I meet fantastic mentors with as much practical experience fighting the same battles I’m already interested in?” said Brendan L. Keating, YPN executive committee member. “I really didn’t know much about the League before I joined, but it has really been a life changing experience. I’m not aware of any other organization that will help you grow your resume and create your own opportunities for success like the League has done for me.”
The party will feature free appetizers, drink specials, prizes and civics trivia. For more information please email Young People’s Network Ambassador Brendan L. Keating at BLKLeague@gmail.com
