MORRISTOWN, NEW JERSEY - Last month, two dogwood trees, one white and one pink, were donated and planted in J. Tracy Memorial Park in Morristown. Joanne Fillimon, a resident of Morristown for the past 22 years, and her sister Lorraine Lipka contacted the Shade Tree Commission and worked with them to plant these trees to honor their parents who have passed away.
Fillimon wrote to the Town about the decision to plant the trees in Morristown, saying that the two sisters wanted to do something special to honor their parents’ memory and felt that Morristown was the perfect place to do so.
“My dad had the opportunity to drive around town with me [before his passing] and admire the natural beauty that our town has to offer. He recognized and appreciated the time and effort that it takes to maintain the parks, gardens, sidewalks and landscapes,” Fillimon added. “My mother enjoyed our drives through town; she always admired the trees and blossoming flowers. She loved the fall foliage and in her later years was fascinated with the leaves on the trees as they changed colors.”

J. Tracy Memorial Park, located in the middle of Morristown, is centrally located with easy access and serves as the perfect place for Fillimon and her sister to pay tribute. After their mother’s passing in 2016, the decision was easy for these local sisters.
“Our parents would love being remembered, side by side as they were in life, in such a loving and enduring manner” added Fillimon.
“It’s nice to see that our residents have such strong ties to Morristown and reflect with wonderful memories,” said Morristown Mayor Timothy Dougherty. “We thank Ms. Fillimon and Ms. Lipka for donating these trees to J. Tracy Memorial Park to honor their parents and help make our Town a more beautiful place.”
