MONTCLAIR, NJ - An Orange man was taken into custody by Montclair police on Saturday evening after being spotted in a vehicle reported stolen earlier that day by the BMW of Morrristown.

Morris Township police reported the arrest of Alphonse Ollie, 34, of Orange by Montclair police officials after officers spotted him driving through Montclair in a stolen black BMW.

The vehicle was reported stolen from the BMW of Morristown sometime before noon. As the dealer was preparing to deliver the vehicle to a customer, a man jumped into the driver's seat and drove off.

Morris Township police officials then launched a statewide alert. An investigation revealed that the car was driving through Newark and Montclair.

Update: Lt. David O'Dowd of the Montclair Police Department reported that a few hours later, at 6:05pm, officers spotted the stolen vehicle parked in the lot at Lackawanna Plaza. When Ollie came back to the car and attempted to gain access to the vehicle, officers approached to arrenst him. He fled on foot and was caught after a brief chase. After struggling with officers to place handcuffs on him, officers arrested Ollie and recovered the stolen BMW 328i.

He was charged with Receiving Stolen Property and Resisting Arrest.
