MORRISTOWN, NJ - The Morris Educational Foundation (MEF), a non-profit organization enhancing excellence in education in the Morris School District, is pleased to announce that the MEF Board of Trustees elected Hector Mislavsky as the new board Chair. Mislavsky will serve for a two-year term effective July 1, 2020. He succeeds Patty Haralampoudis, who served as board chair since 2017, and will remain on the full board as the Immediate Past Chair. Additionally, the MEF Board of Trustees elected Melanie Smith as the new board Vice Chair, Katherine Vizzini as the new Treasurer and Kim Pistner as the new Secretary.

"It was a great honor to serve the community as board chair for the last three years, and I thank the MEF Board of Trustees for the amazing opportunity," said Patty Haralampoudis. "I join with my fellow board in extending our congratulations to Hector Mislavsky on becoming the new board chair and to the newly-elected executive board. I am very confident that under Hector's leadership, the MEF will continue to make a positive impact in the foundation's mission."

The four esteemed members of the community moved into the executive board positions after having served on the board prior to their new roles. The team is eager to use their experience in the MEF coupled with their background from their previous careers and endeavors to continue to enrich and inspire the academic pursuits of all students in the District.

"I am delighted, grateful and motivated to be elected as board chair for the MEF," said Hector Mislavsky.  "I want to thank the MEF Board of Trustees for its confidence in me to serve as board chair, and I especially thank Patty Haralampoudis for her three years of leadership.  We are in the midst of challenging times but I am excited to continue working with my board colleagues, staff and stakeholders to continue our true north - to generate and distribute financial and other resources to and for the community of the Morris School District. My door and the MEF's door - whether in person or virtually - are always open."

Hector Mislavsky, Chair - Hector and his wife, Judy Martinez, have been residents of Morristown for 32 years. Their children, Jessie (MHS '10) and Myles (MHS '13), went through the Morris School District. Hector joined the MEF Board of Trustees in 2018. He also currently serves on the board of Arts  By The People, has co-chaired special projects for Preschool Advantage and was a board member of Cornerstone Family Programs for approximately 15 years, serving as board chair from 2016-2018. Prior to retiring in 2017, Hector was a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers specializing in human resources matters in the context of corporate mergers and acquisitions. Hector earned his undergraduate degree in business administration from Rutgers University and retired as an Associate in the Society of Actuaries, the American Academy of Actuaries and as an Enrolled Actuary.



Melanie Smith, Vice Chair - Melanie and her husband Alan moved to Morris Township in 2006 and spent three years, between 2014 and 2017 as expats in Shanghai, China. Since moving back full time to New Jersey, Melanie joined Impact 100 Garden State and serves on both the Non-Profit Outreach and PR/Communications committee. She is a member of the Morris County Chapter of Jack & Jill of America, Inc. where she is an elected officer of the board and serves as Program Director for the chapter. She has also volunteered at various events at Thomas Jefferson Elementary and Frelinghuysen Middle School where her daughter, Ava, currently attends. Her older daughter, Alina, attends Lehigh University where she plays Division I volleyball. Alan, a human resource executive, is a member of the MSD Board of Education and serves on its HR and Finance committees.

Before leaving the corporate workforce, Melanie worked for several companies and industries as a marketing professional and holds a BS degree from Georgetown University and an MS from Johns Hopkins University. Melanie enjoys exercising and holds a certification from AFAA for group fitness instruction.

Katherine Vizzini, Treasurer - Katherine joined the MEF Board of Trustees in 2017. She has been an active volunteer in the Morris School District, serving as PTO President at Thomas Jefferson School and Treasurer and Cultural Arts Chair at Woodland School. Katherine previously worked as a VP of Finance at NBC Universal and has experience in financial planning and analysis, project management, and strategy and development. She is an alumna of both Villanova University and Rutgers Business School and has a C.P.A in the State of NJ. Katherine and her husband, Joseph, have been residents ofMorris Township since 2002 and are the parents of Madelyn and Jack, both students in the Morris School District.



Kim Pistner, Secretary - Kim joined the MEF Board of Trustees in 2010. She was an active volunteer in the Morris School District, serving as HSAPresident, PAC President, and committee member of the Guidance Committee and Project Graduation committees at the high school during her children's tenures in the MSD. She and her husband, John, are the parents of Blake (MHS '11) and Chase (MHS '04) She is currently the Chair of the MEF Board Governance committee. Kim is a Certified Education Foundation Leader through the National School Foundation Association's program.

Patty Haralampoudis, Immediate Past Chair - Patty and her husband Greg have lived in Morristown since 1996. They have three sons, Christopher (MHS '14), Luke (MHS '17) and Evan (MHS '21). Patty has been a tireless volunteer on behalf of the Morris School District as her boys went through its various schools. Most recently, she served as the Chair of the MEF from 2017-2020, and prior to that served in the capacity of MEF Treasurer for 9 years. She has an undergraduate degree from Cornell University and Masters in Public Administration from New York University. Patty is the proud new owner of The Blue Purl, a yarn supply and class shop located in Madison, NJ.
