MORRIS TOWNSHIP, NJ- In its September “Best Places to Live” issue, arriving in subscribers’ mailboxes this week, New Jersey Monthly ranked Morris Township #82 among its top 100 towns in New Jersey. The magazine’s complete list of 510 ranked towns will become available on NJMonthly.com after Sept. 1.
In compiling its 2015 list, NJ Monthly said it used an independent research firm to examine factors including home prices, real estate taxes, student test scores, crime rates and lifestyle factors including commute time and presence of dining and cultural options.
Towns with a population of fewer than 1,500 were not included.
Also in the September issue, NJ Monthly named Downtown Morristown among its favorite downtowns.
“About half the stores are national chains, but locally owned shops are an important presence,” the article said. “That adds up to mall-like variety with the charm and personality of a small town.”
What's more, Morris County towns held half of the top 10 spots, including neighboring Florham Park, Madison and Harding Township.
“The municipalities at the upper reaches of our ranking are among the most attractive in the state—for homeowners and homebuyers alike,” says New Jersey Monthly Editor Ken Schlager. “Each of these towns in its own way have great value, with plenty to offer in terms of schools and quality of life.”
Leflein Associates, an independent research firm based in Ringwood, compiled the 2015 list of 'Top Towns' for New Jersey Monthly.
In creating the rankings, the researchers considered five categories to represent the quality of life in New Jersey municipalities: property taxes, home values, crime rate, school performance, and lifestyle factors such as proximity to performing arts venues and restaurants, and commute time.
