MORRIS TOWNSHIP, NJ - After a night that saw police helicopters overhead and officers following scent dogs trough backyards searching for a man, the threat to a Morris Township neighborhood is over, police said this morning.
Although authorities continue to search garbage cans and walk through yards, they said they have determined the area is safe. They did not say they caught the man they were seeking, however.
As of 11:47 a.m., there was no longer an emergency situation, said police.
But, because of the incident, Normandy Park School in Morris Township implemented enhanced security measures early in the day. The school has since lifted the alerts.
Morris Township Police Chief Mark DiCarlo said the Morris Plains Police Department was leading the investigation. The Morris Plains Police Department did not immediately responded to questions.
