MORRISTOWN, NJ - The Morris Township Police Department is alerting residents to a sweepstakes scam hitting our area.
Residents are being urged to know the difference between a legitimate sweepstakes offer and a scam.
Scams usually will ask for pre-payment of taxes or ask that legal fees be paid before a prize will be mailed. Scams may also ask the winner to cash a check and then wire a portion back.
Legitimate sweepstakes winners will never be asked to send any money to receive winnings. Legitimate sweepstakes will never ask for a credit card or bank information.
