MORRIS TOWNSHIP, NJ - The Morris Township Police Department has announced that there have been continuing reports of residents becoming victims of phone scams. Callers have been identifying themselves as the I.R.S. (Internal Revenue Service) or the Department of Revenue. Scammers will provide false names and badge numbers. Some may even become aggressive and threaten fines or arrest. The Morris Township Police is recommending that people who receive these types of calls should just hang up. Do not give out any personal information.
The I.R.S. and the Department of Revenue will never call taxpayers on the phone. They will communicate only by U.S. mail.
