MORRISTOWN, NJ – The abstract paintings of local contemporary artist, Marcia Reich, will be on display and available for sale in a solo show at the Hyatt Regency Hotel Morristown’s Eclectic Grill Restaurant from April 1- June 30, 2017. The press and public are invited to a wine and cheese reception on April 22 to view the collection and meet the artist.
Entitled “Conversations,” the idea for the collection grew out of the artist’s sense of being actively engaged in dialogue with her canvasses when she paints. “As I begin, I try to determine what the painting needs, as well as where I need to go with it,” said Ms. Reich. “The conversation begins the moment I lift my brush to the canvas for the first stroke, and continues until I sense the painting is complete.”
Splattering, dripping, scraping, wiping and rolling paint are just some of the methods used by Ms. Reich, as she applies paint to a canvas. Her work includes dramatic colorful abstracts, and loose abstract figures that often emerge spontaneously. She finds some figures take on a prominent place as she paints, while others linger quietly in the background.
A team of curators at Morristown’s ArtSpace studio, a community of artists under the direction of Julie Friedman, PSA, selected Ms. Reich’s collection for its quality, cohesiveness and strong point of view. The work hangs beautifully in the restaurant, creating a bold and memorable experience for spectators, and adding drama and beauty to the ambiance of the hotel.
Reich recently had one of her paintings sponsored and hung at the Madison YMCA following her participation in New Jersey’s ‘Paint the Town Yellow,’ and has additional paintings for sale at Hawthorne Home in Summit, New Jersey.
