MORRISTOWN, NJ – The 119th season of Morristown High School baseball got off to an auspicious start on Monday afternoon.
Superb pitching from Brennan O’Neill and freshman Joe Pucek helped propel the Colonials to a 6-0 victory over visiting Sparta at Harter Road, getting Morristown to a 1-0 in the early goings of the campaign.
O’Neill—a junior committed to Seton Hall—struck out seven batters in three innings of hitless ball, while Pucek picked up the win in relief by pitching the final four innings. Pucek only gave up two hits to Spartan batters on the day.
Tate Ballestero had a huge day at the plate for the winners, going 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI. David Haberman finished 1-for-3 with an RBI for the Colonials, while Andrew Gold (2-for-3) also contributed with a multi-hit game.
