MORRISTOWN--The Morristown High baseball team added another quality victory to its Morris County Tournament seeding bid.
In a high-scoring game, the Colonials registered a 10-6 victory over Pope John to improve to 6-1 on the campaign. With its only setback against Montgomery (a 2-1 score) in out-of-conference action on Saturday, Morristown is undefeated in both Morris County and NJAC play heading into the seeding meeting.
The Colonials, perennial power Delbarton, an upstart Mendham squad, and two-time defending champion Roxbury figure to earn home field advantage to the semifinals in some order. Morristown--county pacesetters with 13 titles--is now in a six-year drought without a title. The last one came following a two-hit masterpiece from Brandon Gonnella to beat Delbarton at Randolph's Freedom Park at the beginning of the decade in 2010.
Matt Mahoney picked up the victory for the Maroon & White, starter Brennan O'Neill fell one shy of becoming eligible to pick up the victory when he was removed with two outs in the top of the 5th.
Matt Nodoro had a huge day at the dish for Morristown, going 3-for-4 with 3 RBI on the day, while Jamie Wendell also registered a trio of hits and a run batted in.
