MORRIS TOWNSHIP – No one expected the Morristown boys soccer team’s bid to repeat as North 1, Group 4 sectional champions was going to be easy.
With that being said, few soccer pundits would have predicted the opening round matchup vs. Morris Knolls to be as difficult as it was.
The second-seeded Colonials needed a second-half goal from Edwin Hernandez to escape past the No. 15 seed Golden Eagles, 1-0, on Monday afternoon in state action at Greystone Park.
Graydon Rogers had the assist and Mike Storch had five saves for Morristown, who are now 14-7-1 overall on the season. They will take on seventh-seeded Bergen Tech—3-2 winners over Mount Olive in their opening round game—on Thursday afternoon
