MORRISTOWN, NJ - Morristown High School boys soccer team secured the win over Whippany Park in Saturday's home opener; 2-1. With 20 seniors, the Colonials are counting on depth this season.
Ryan Kearney scored giving Whippany Park the lead in the first half. But after giving up a rebound on a corner kick halfway through the first half, Morristown rebounded when senior Art Ruiz scored off of a pass from senior Edwin Hernandez to equal it at 1-1 before halftime.
In the second half, senior goalkeeper Mike Storch blocked a penalty kick and senior Graydon Rogers scored off another pass from Hernandez to pace Morristown past Whippany Park 2-1
"We got the first game jitters out of the way. There were some calls not going in our favor and it reminded the team to work through adversity. Multiple players stepped up at different moments so that together we can enjoy this narrow victory," said Morristown coach Brian Kiernan, now in his 6th season as the head coach of the program.
The Colonials will travel to face Orange Avenue High School on Monday September 12 at 4pm.
