MORRISTOWN, NJ – Generally, being stuck in the 8/9 game of a county or state tournament is not exactly the place a team wants to be seeded, with the top dogs of the field looming in the quarterfinals.
But considering three-time defending champion Roxbury—and their close challengers lately, West Morris and Randolph—are on the other side of the bracket, it’s a draw the Colonials will surely take in stride.
Scott Hansen’s club—which earned the eighth seed in the 26-team field—will launch its tournament play this weekend against No. 25 seed Dover in preliminary round action.
Should they advance, the 2-2-1 Colonials will face the winner of No. 9 Hanover Park and No. 24 Butler in the Round of 16.
If they can go 2-for-2 from that slate, Morristown would likely then face top-seeded Morris Knolls in the quarterfinals. While the Golden Eagles registered a pair of impressive, 2-1 victories over Randolph and Roxbury, it has been more than a quarter of a century since they last took the county crown.
