MORRIS TOWNSHIP, NJ – The Morristown girls tennis team opened up state tournament play with a near perfect performance on Thursday.
Only needing one game more than the minimum of 60, the Colonials rolled to a 5-0 victory over Bloomfield at Frelinghuysen Middle School in the opening round of the NJSIAA North 1, Group 4 tournament. The winners will now meet Memorial of West New York in the quarterfinals on Monday.
Morristown (11-4) got 6-0, 6-0 sweeps from Steffi Elling, Meghan Acampora, and Izabelle Berzins in the singles matches.
At first doubles, MHS conceded its only game of the match in the first set, but Isabella Galankin and Maddie Siegel still won in comfortable fashion, 6-1, 6-0.
And in the second doubles tilt, Lauren Blaustein and Eva Endahl also won a 6-0, 6-0 decision.
