MORRISTOWN, NJ – Thanks to a dominating performance from its singles players, the Morristown High girls tennis team picked up its second victory of the season on Monday afternoon.
First singles player Maddie Siegel, along with her teammates Lauren Blaustein and Isabella Galinkin—second and third in the Colonials lineup—each won their matches convincingly to propel the locals to a 3-2 victory over Randolph at Frelinghuysen Middle School to move to 2-5 on the campaign.
Siegel needed almost the minimum amount of games necessary to defeat Rams first singles starter Daphne Cheng, 6-1, 6-0. Blaustein defeated Randolph’s Julia Yellen by that same score flipped, 6-0, 6-1, while Galinkin notched a victory over Samantha Tassillo by a 6-4, 6-1 margin to clinch the match.
Both of Morristown’s doubles teams—the batteries of Rachel DellaPelle and Tara Goldhirsch at first, along with Maura DeLaney and Elyse Genrich—both dropped three-set thrillers in their matches. DellaPella and Goldhirsch dropped their third set 7-5 in overtime on points.
