MORRISTOWN,nj – The Morristown High baseball team had little trouble in its Morris County Tournament opener on Saturday afternoon.
The 5-5 Colonials, seeded tenth in the 26 team field, mercy-ruled twenty-third seeded Mountain Lakes, 10-0, in five and a half innings to advance to next Saturday’s Round of 16. Morristown will travel to Butler, a 5-1 winner over Morris Tech in their preliminary, with a spot in the quarterfinals the next day on the line.
Brennan O’Neill had another huge day at the dish for the winners, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and a pair of runs batted in. He also pitched well, striking out nine Lakers in a two hit, 91 pitch effort.
Luke Schulte and Collin Burke each produced multiple RBI afternoons, while Andrew Gold safely reached base in all four of his plate appearances, singling twice and walking twice.
