SUCCASUNNA, NJ – Twice did the Morristown High baseball team load the bases at Roxbury on Monday, and twice the Colonials came away empty-handed.
Those squandered opportunities simply can’t and will never do against the perennially powerful Gaels.
Undefeated Roxbury (4-0) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and never trailed in its crossover game vs. Morristown at the winner’s field. Despite a run batted in each from Andrew Gold (3-for-4) and David Haberman, the men left on base paths were simply too much to overcome for Morristown, which dropped to 1-3 on the season.
Morristown starting pitcher Caden Tierney surrendered three runs in as many innings of work to take the loss for the Coloials, while Mike Sgaramella and Jaxen Ruhalter pieced together the final four innings.
With the Morris County Tournament seeding meeting looming a week from Tuesday, the Colonials’ NJAC-United game vs. Montville on Wednesday will be an important game on the calendar.
