WESTFIELD, NJ – Despite an unexpectedly difficult start to the season, the Morristown High baseball team got what many pundits on the local baseball scene would call a favorable county tournament draw.
The Colonials got the No.10 seed at Thursday night’s seeding meeting, and will host the twenty-third rated side, Mountain Lakes, in a Saturday preliminary at Harter Road.
Seventh-seeded Butler, a Group I program that has not made it past the Round of 16 since way back in 2008, would likely be next for Morristown should they advance.
Other Morristown-based schools Delbarton and Morristown-Beard received the No. 3 and No. 19 seeds, respectively.
Morristown (4-5) drew closer to the .500 mark on Thursday afternoon, as they went on the road and defeated Westfield by an 11-6 count.
Tate Ballestero had a monster day at the dish, going 4-for-5 with a home run and 3 RBI. Brennan O’Neill’s day at the plate was equally as impressive, as the junior went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a homer, and 4 RBI himself.
Despite giving up three runs (two earned) in 2 2/3 innings of work, Mike Sgaramella picked up his first victory in relief for Morristown to move to 1-0 on the season
