HACKETTSTOWN – The Morristown fencing program had a successful District 1 fencing tournament over the weekend, with the Colonials taking 3rd place in the girls event and 4th in the boys competition.
Champions Morris Hills cruised to the team titles in the nine team field by four percentage points, but Morristown had some strong performances individually.
Morristown’s Abigail Gringeri won a District 1 champion in the Epee class, while Julia Landi finished third in the same event. Both are through to the post-season individual state tournament that will get rolling in mid-February.
On the boys side, Colonials senior Ean Weiss punched his ticket to states with a second place finish in the Foil bracket. Dan Ribaudo advanced in the Sabre field with a third place showing.
