MORRISTOWN – Believe it or not, the winter sports season at Morristown High School is set to get underway on Sunday.
While the Colonials basketball, wrestling, fencing, and indoor track squads just started practice this past Monday, Morristown will launch its hockey season over the weekend when they face Jackson Memorial at Mennen Arena. Face-off is slated for 4:15 PM.
Because of limited rink and pool times throughout the state, the NJSIAA allows ice hockey and swimming to get a head start on their seasons. November 25th is the start date this season for those sports, while all other winter sports will launch their campaigns on December 15th.
Bobby Jones’ hockey club went 10-11-3 last year with a very young group that returns most of its core. Two key players slated to return for Morristown is senior forward Nate DeFares—the leading scorer from a year ago with 11 goals—and senior goaltender Derek Peck, who stopped 313 shots last winter.
